How to prepare for Golgoroth in Destiny 2 Pantheon
While Golgoroth is one of the easier Raid bosses, which is why he’s the first Pantheon boss, he’s difficult if you don’t know what you’re doing. I highly recommend using one of the best Pantheon builds as your base. I also recommend communicating verbally with your Fireteam since there are teams you need to form and timers you need to watch out for.
Make sure you have strong DPS weapons — some of the Onslaught weapons like Edge Transit and Falling Guillotine are great for this. Rocket Launchers, Linear Fusion Rifles, and Snipers are the best options for dealing damage to Golgoroth. You’ll also want weapons that excel at add-clear like an SMG, Grenade Launcher, or Auto Rifle.
The main strategy to defeat Golgoroth in Destiny 2 Pantheon
There are two main things you need to know to beat Golgoroth in Destiny 2 Pantheon: two players need to distract Golgoroth by taking Golgoroth’s Gaze and drop the ceiling bubbles while the other four players stay in the main pit, focus on dealing damage fast to Golgoroth, clear adds, and watch out for the Unstable Light debuff.
At the start of the encounter, clear the adds on the left and right of the stage. When you see Taken bubbles form on the ceiling, you can begin the damage phase which I describe in detail below.
How to distract Golgoroth with Golgoroth’s Gaze in Destiny 2 Pantheon
Team one, the team of two Guardians that are distracting Golgoroth and not dealing DPS, need to start the DPS phase and keep it going by shooting the light blue bubbles on the ceiling at the front of the room. They also need to shoot the yellow spot on Golgoroth’s back to get the Golgoroth’s Gaze buff.
One player at a time can have Golgoroth’s Gaze and it lasts for 20 seconds. When the Golgoroth’s Gaze timer gets low, that Guardian needs to communicate to the other Guardian to take Golgoroth’s Gaze by shooting the yellow spot on Golgoroth’s back.
These two Guardians need to constantly juggle Golgoroth’s Gaze while avoiding Taken Orbs that can easily kill them. On top of that, they need to shoot the light blue ceiling bubbles that emerge periodically. There are six of these in total.
More on the ceiling bubbles in the next section. If this is too much work for these two Guardians, your team can designate one of the four Guardians dealing DPS to focus on the ceiling bubbles.
How to deal damage to Golgoroth and avoid Unstable Light and the Tablet of Ruin in Destiny 2 Pantheon
While the two Guardians distract Golgoroth and shoot the ceiling bubbles, the four Guardians on the ground need to stand where the bubbles drop and deal damage to Golgoroth by hitting the glowing spot on his exposed stomach.
You’ll know you’re in the right area when you see the Pool of Reclaimed Light buff. This gives you extra damage on Golgoroth, but you’ll need to keep moving to stay in the Pool of Reclaimed Light. Though you’ll be moving around a lot, I still recommend using a Well of Radiance or two from Solar Warlocks to deal the most damage to Golgoroth.
The last thing you need to know about the ceiling bubbles is that if you miss any of them, they get collected by Golgoroth and placed in the Tablet of Ruin. If too many bubbles get placed in the Tablet of Ruin, it will activate and wipe your entire team.
While you should focus entirely on dealing damage to Golgoroth, you also need to watch out for the Unstable Light debuff that a random DPS player will get. This debuff deals explosive damage around the player and is a quick way to kill all your DPS allies.
If you have the Unstable Light debuff, I recommend getting close to Golgoroth to deal explosive damage to him and nearby adds. If you see that you have the Unstable Light debuff, get away from your teammates at all costs.
Once all six ceiling bubbles are dealt with, the damage phase will end. Go to the left and right of the room again, clear adds, and, when you see ceiling bubbles spawn back in, assume the positions and start your DPS phase again. Good luck on your path toward the Godslayer Title.
