Although most of the resources we’ve found for free furniture are very local and can be found in the state-by-state directory below, there are a few nationwide places that give away free furniture.
Army Emergency Relief
Soldiers and their families may be able to receive rent relief from Army Emergency Relief (AER). This program provides zero-interest loans and grants to those who need assistance. They can help with rent, security deposits, food, vehicle costs, utilities, funeral expenses, basic furniture, appliance costs, child care seats, dental care, home repair, clothing, and so much more.

Salvation Army Free Furniture Voucher
The Salvation Army operates thrift stores around the United States. In many areas, you may be able to get a Salvation Army free furniture voucher that can be redeemed at their thrift store for free furniture. These vouchers will usually only provide basic, essential furniture. You will need to inquire with your nearest Salvation Army location for details.
St. Vincent de Paul
Just like the Salvation Army, St. Vincent de Paul also operates thrift stores around the country. They may also provide vouchers that can be redeemed for free furniture from their thrift stores.

Alabama
Christian Mission Centers (Enterprise)
The Christian Mission Center‘s Benevolence Assistance Program offers assistance with many different needs, including:
- Rent/Mortgage
- Utilities
- Hotel costs
- Transportation (including bus and gasoline)
- Childcare services
- Medical equipment loans
- Food
- Thrift store vouchers (including clothing, furniture, appliances and more)
Christmas Charities Year Round (Madison County)
CCYR is one of the oldest and most well-known providers in Madison County. They offer free beds and dressers to those in financial or emergency need. Children will always receive priority service at CCYR. This organization also offers a free clothing program, mobile closet for school students, medical equipment loan program, and a Christmas program that provides free gifts and toys to families and seniors.
Committee on Church Cooperation (Morgan County)
The Committee on Church Cooperation provides assistance with food, gasoline vouchers, toiletries, cleaning products, prescription assistance, furniture, clothing, kitchen essentials and more. All of their services are provided free of charge for Morgan County residents.
Community Furniture Bank (Jefferson County)
The Community Furniture Bank provides assistance with donated furniture, appliances and other household goods like pots, pans, utensils, sheets and more.
Etowah Baptist Mission Center (Etowah County)
The Etowah Baptist Mission Center offers a variety of assistance programs. You will need to make an appointment in order to receive assistance. They can help with small kitchen appliances.
Marshall County Christian Services (Marshall County)
According to some resource directories, Marshall County Christian Services may offer free or low-cost furniture and clothing through their programs.

Hawaii
Institute of Human Services (Honolulu County)
The Institute of Human Services provides rent assistance, help with security deposits and utility deposits and more! They can even help furnish apartments, provide household goods and more.
Massachusetts
Material Aid & Advocacy Program
MAAP provides a free store for low income people in the community. The store can provide survival supplies, clothing, hygiene kits, small household goods and more. You do not need a referral or appointment. The store is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 9am and 3pm in Cambridge.
Mission of Deeds
Mission of Deeds provides beds, household items and other furniture to low income residents of Middlesex and Essex County. They also serve some counties in Suffolk County, such as Chelsea, Revere and Winthrop. In order to receive help from this agency, you need to get a referral from another agency such as Community Action, Salvation Army, local schools, homeless shelters, senior centers, and others.
Project Home Again
Project Home Again provides recycled household goods, furniture, and small appliances to low income households who need assistance. They know it’s hard for low income people to have the comforts that turn a house into a home and their organization exists to help.
Project Just Because
Project Just Because allows people to place ads for large furniture items that don’t fit into their building. This way, you can find items in your area that may meet your needs.
Montana
Friends of the Community Inc. (Livingston)
Friends of the Community provides many different programs that help local residents. They can assist with security deposits, furniture, household goods, gas to get to work, medications and more. It appears they may also help with Montana rent assistance.

Mississippi
Clinton Community Christian Corporation (Clinton)
If you live within the Clinton School District boundaries, then you may be able to receive assistance from Clinton Community Christian Corporation. This organization provides emergency financial assistance with rent, utilities, prescription medications, food, clothing, furniture, and other items. They also offer a Thanksgiving and Christmas program, and assistance with weatherization and housing repairs.
Nebraska
Christian Outreach Program Elkhorn (Douglas County)
COPE serves residents in Bennington, Elkhorn, and DC West School Districts with Nebraska rent assistance programs, utility payments, holiday food baskets, school supplies, Christmas programs, home furnishings, clothing, diapers, personal care items, food and other community programs. This is a great resource for low income families in the area!
Nevada
Pahrump Family Resource Center (Nye County)
The Pahrump Family Resource Center can assist with clothing, household goods, furniture and other items. They may also be able to assist with gas vouchers, rental assistance and other basic needs.
North Carolina
Belmont Community Organization
The Belmont Community Organization helps Belmont residents with utilities, rent, medicine, heating fuel, clothing, furniture and more. In order to get help, you will need to provide your photo ID, Social Security number, proof of address and proof of income.
Oregon
Northwest Pilot Project (Multnomah County)
Multnomah County seniors (age 55+) who are capable of independent living may be able to receive help maintaining safe and stable housing through the Northwest Pilot Project. This program can provide advocacy, permanent housing placement, and more. They can even provide assistance with move-in deposits, basic furniture and moving assistance! Rent assistance is available for eviction prevention purposes.
Once you are enrolled in their Housing Services program, you may also be able to receive assistance with transportation to medical appointments, shopping, housing-related appointments or personal business.

South Lincoln Resources (South Lincoln County)
SLR provides donated furniture to any South Lincoln County residents who need them. The availability of these items depends on donations received. According to the organization, you are welcome to call with your requests and they’ll let you know if/when they receive the items you need.
Rhode Island
McAuley House (Providence)
Sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy, the McAuley House provides some incredible services to their community. In addition to offering rental assistance, the McAuley House also assists with daily meals, food, furniture, utilities, legal services, bus passes, personal care items, counseling and crisis intervention, help obtaining IDs and other personal documents, and more!
West Virginia
Mountain Mission (Kanawha Valley)
Mountain Mission provides a robust financial assistance program for people in the Kanawha Valley. They can provide assistance with housing, utilities, food, clothing, furniture, hygiene supplies, toiletries, medical equipment like canes or wheelchairs, appliances, baby needs and more. Their housing services include help with rent, short-term hotel/motel assistance, basic repairs like hot water tanks and circuit breaker boxes, and disaster recovery.
Wyoming
Interfaith of Natrona County (Natrona County)
Interfaith of Natrona County assists low income people with many things, including help with clothing, laundry, furniture, household items, diapers, blankets, work boots, gasoline, prescriptions and more. They also provide Wyoming rent assistance and utility assistance when the funds are available, but that is not always available and depends on the donations and grants they have received.
