Cricut member spotlight

Kecia Pierre started selling #cricutmade items in 2020.

(Don’t be) afraid to explore and experiment, seeing a dream or idea blossom into a product.

Kecia loves to make home decor, baby clothes, and personalized event keepsakes with her Cricut Maker. She loves working with permanent premium vinyl and cardstock.

She started selling items because….

These type of items are not easily had in Jamaica, and persons kept requesting them (from me) although I had intended it to be a hobby only since I am in (my) final year of University.

Some of our favorite items from Kecia include:

Q&A with members who sell items

We had burning questions for our Cricut members. Did you have similar thoughts? A little more about how these Cricut members got started or kept going may be found below.

What was the biggest challenge you faced in getting your business off the ground, and how did you overcome it?

My biggest challenge was being in my own way and self-doubt. I have a bad habit of being my own worst critic and being too much of a perfectionist. I planned to start an Etsy shop back in October 2019 and I kept getting in my own way, but I finally overcame my fears by just taking the plunge and doing it! I believed in myself and became content knowing that I maysucceedor I may fail but I will still give it my best shot!

What has been the key to your success?

Be willing to adapt and pivot. The success I’ve seen has been the result of difficult decisions I made and continue to make. If something isn’t working, it doesn’t mean you have failed. It means you are one step closer to finding out what does.

What piece of advice would you offer to a friend that is interested in starting their own Cricut-based business?

What is your proudest achievement when it comes to your business?

I have to say being able to help other crafters along the way! I love sharing my process and tips with other crafters and inspiring cute things! I don’t share everything I do 😉 but I am proud that I can help spread positivity and make crafting easier or share a new idea! I also feelreally proudabout the keepsake items I’ve made. A lot of my Christmas ornaments have been used to announce pregnancies this year and I think that’sreally specialto be a part of.

What was the biggest challenge you faced in getting your business off the ground, and how did you overcome it?

Make Cricut work for you: things to make and sell with Cricut – Cricut (10)

As I started this journey, the biggest challenge for me was convincing myself to jump all in. It’s hard to be successful owning a small business, but it is even harder if you are only putting in 50% of your effort. Don’t get me wrong; I do this on the side of myfull-timejob, but I give 100% of myself to my small business. I invest in it; I believe in it; and I am proud of it. I overcame my hesitancy to jump all in by learning to trust my creative process. It didn’t happen overnight, but the more I shared my art and ideas with people, the more comfortable I became with sharing my art and ideas.

What piece of advice would you offer to a friend that is interested in starting their own Cricut-based business?

Just start! You’re not going to have everything figured out at the beginning, so it’s best to just start and find your footing as you go. Nothing is set in stone, so you can always change your mind about what products you want to sell, how you want to sell, or even your business name and branding along the way! If you wait until you have everything planned and figured out, then you’ll never even start.

What emotions did you experience as you were starting your business? How has that changed over time?

Excitement, fear, creativity. Over time, the emotions have come and gone in waves. Going from a salary job to a variable income completely dependent on me has been scary but empowering.

What was your big break? Is there a moment when thingsshiftedand your business started to take off?

It changed when I started to illustrate digitally with myiPadand I started to create my own products with myCricut. My audience loves to see the process of how I make my products, especiallythe stickers. The engagement is huge when you show how you work.
