Fact Check: Walmart will not keep its US stores open 24/7 starting early June. According to a company spokesperson, Walmart is not planning to restart round-the-clock store operations in early June 2024. The store chain ceased being open 24/7 during the COVID-19 pandemic.

That's fiction. A Walmart spokesperson says there are no current plans to return stores to 24 hours of operation. Walmart went from being open 24 hours a day to closing at 11pm during the pandemic and has kept those hours ever since. The company does point out you can shop at Walmart any time you like on its website.

COVID doomed the 24-hour business. And with the current dynamic in the workforce – lots of openings and few workers – it makes sense to reduce or remove nighttime schedules and graveyard shifts. And as we can see from Walmart's example, this has allowed big box retailers to finally shed the costs of a 24-hour store.

Walmart explained that the decision to close a bit earlier was made based on feedback. "We're continually exploring ways to better serve our communities," the spokesperson told WSB-TV. "After considering feedback from market leadership, associates and customers, we've decided to adjust operating hours."
